About Daily Sobriety Reflections

Written by a psychotherapist with 37 years in recovery himself
"We are not saints. The point is, that we are willing to grow along spiritual lines." — Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 60

My Story

I got sober on August 18, 1989. I was 21 years old.

I went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's in Counseling, and spent the next three decades working as a psychotherapist specializing in psychiatric care and substance abuse rehabilitation. For over 30 years, I've sat across from people in the earliest, hardest days of recovery — and I've lived through those days myself.

I started this site to bring together lived experience and clinical understanding: reflections and tools rooted in the actual language of the Big Book, the 12 Steps, and the 12 Traditions, informed by both my own 37 years of sobriety and a career spent helping others find theirs.

Still the same answer after 37 years: one day at a time.

Everything here draws from the three pillars of AA recovery literature. The color design of this site intentionally reflects the books themselves:

📘 Big BookThe foundation. The first 164 pages that everything else rests on.
🔵 12 & 12The structure. The Steps and Traditions that give recovery its shape.
🌿 Living SoberPractical, grounding, everyday wisdom for staying sober.
☀️ Daily ReflectionsThe daily companion. One reading for each day of the year, written by AA members for AA members.

Who This Is For

This site is for anyone in or exploring recovery from alcohol — whether you're on Day 1 or Year 20. It's for people who know the literature and want a daily touchpoint. It's for sponsors sharing resources with newcomers. And it's for anyone who just needs a moment of grounding today.

What This Is Not

This site is not a substitute for individual treatment, therapy, or a relationship with a sponsor — recovery is not one-size-fits-all, and nothing here replaces working with a licensed provider who knows your specific situation. What I can offer is what three decades in this field, on both sides of it, have taught me about what actually helps. Daily Sobriety Reflections is not affiliated with Alcoholics Anonymous World Services, Inc. It's an independent project, built by someone who owes this program his life and has spent his career trying to give some of it back.
