Your date is calculated on your device and never sent to us. If you tick "Remember," it's saved only in this browser.
In AA, your sobriety date is usually the first full day you didn't drink, the day after your last drink. This calculator counts full days since that date, so your sobriety date itself shows 0 days and the next day shows 1. Your home group or sponsor may count slightly differently, and that's fine. What matters is that the date is honest and that it's yours.
If you've had a relapse, most members start a new date the day after their last drink. A new date doesn't erase what you learned. See what to do after a relapse.
Many AA groups hand out chips or key tags at 24 hours, 30, 60, and 90 days, 6 and 9 months, and then each year. Picking one up in front of the group can feel awkward the first time, but it does two things: it marks your own progress, and it shows the newcomer in the back row that recovery is possible. Plenty of people with decades of sobriety still carry their first chip.
Milestones are worth celebrating, but they aren't a finish line. Sobriety still happens one day at a time, and the person with one day sober today matters as much as the person with twenty years. Our daily reflections are written for every one of those days.
